Since 2011, technology has advanced seven generations.
THE MILLENNIALS: “As defined for this study, Millennials embody the generation born between 1977 and 1995. There are 80 million of them, which makes their generation larger that the Baby Boomers (born 1946 to 1964) and three times the size of Generation X (1965-1976). They make up roughly 25% of the U.S. population. (They would be between the ages 19-37)” Barkley Agency
The importance of Social Media is that Millennials have 200 to 500 friends on Facebook. They connect using smartphones, and laptop computers.” Millennials are interested in making a difference in the world. They believe in contributing to a cause. They like to volunteer to help in a cause. –Barkley
(By reaching 10 Millennials, there is the potential of reaching between 2,000 and 5,000 of their friends. Millennials outside of the church may be eager to help — like making turkey boxes to help the needy at Thanksgiving.)
- “There are more cell phones in the world than there are computers and televisions combined.” Brad Becckstrom, Apollo Bravo
- “There are now more than 500 million iPhone’s on the planet. Android is everywhere! In fact, over 80% of all smartphones in the world are Androids.” Internet
- Smartphones are capable of downloading numerous apps. They are more than a telephone. They are becoming a handheld computer.
How does the church connect to the emerging technologies, tools of communication and more importantly to these youth who use advanced technologies even more routinely than we used the house telephone?
